Our Recent Accomplishments...

Everyone said that we would be stuck at home for a good 4 to 6 weeks after she was born. We stayed pretty much home bound for the first several days after getting home from the hospital (mostly because the whole thing was all new to us and we had so many people bringing us things to eat). Both Phillip and I had worked on our house so hard before Emerson was born that it was nice to just hang out on the couch for a while. We soon became a bit restless so Target was our first outing. We needed a few groceries and in the process found that it was a perfect place to take her "walking". It is just too hot outside in Mobile and making it around the neighborhood just once a day was taking its toll on everyone. We were a bit concerned that someone would want to touch her or whatever, but we decided that Target seems to have a more sane customer base than the local Wal-Mart and its definitely always less crowded. We have had several cute baby comments from others, but no one has tried to touch her which we don't really give anyone a chance plus I personally think most people better understand the germ concept these days. Since our few successful trips to Target, we have successfully taken Emerson to several restaurants - McAlister's (deli), Pickle Fish (pizza), Beaudean's (seafood), San Miguel (Mexican), and Wintzell's (seafood). Emerson is less than 3 weeks old at this point and has been to more local restaurants than some people I know. At every single restaurant, she has basically slept, but even when she's awake, she just sits there quietly. The key to the whole "going out" concept is just timing...You feed her, burp her, poop her, and go quickly!

Yay! I'm so glad you're getting out. Jason and I think that's the key to remaining sane. I don't understand how people have kids and then stay home all the time; those people drive me crazy. And now's the time to enjoy it, as it does get more and more taxing as they get older (for the next couple of years, at least), not that Jason and I let that stop us. Ours go with us wine tasting almost every weekend (starting the weekend after they were born), and to multiple restaurants every week. But it's easier to go to the white tablecloth places when they're tiny, since they sleep most of the time. Our two have been to the Ruth's Chris in Mobile in their infant carriers--I challenge you to do the same!
