Starbucks.

starbucks1I am addicted.  Love it.  Especially my Venti Nonfat White Chocolate Mocha with Whip Cream.  Yum.

But have you ever bypassed a store that sells the one thing that you want to buy, just to go further out of your way to buy it from someone else?  I do it all the time.  Of course, this depends all on what it is.  In this case, its Starbucks.  I will drive right by the one on Hillcrest and Grelot only to drive past my house to the Schillinger’s Road store.  Why?  Well, the Hillcrest Starbucks isn’t consistent.  I can honestly say that 95% of the time, the drink I order isn’t that good.  I usually ask for a bunch of items at the window (after they hand my the drink) just in case… “Ummm, can you please also give me 2 equals, a stir-stick, and extra napkins?”  They always tell me that if I would let them know upon ordering that they will be more than happy to include my 2 equals.  Yep.  That’s why I get my drink first.  Because I don’t know if it needs the 2 equals yet.

Well, I was driving home last Monday evening.  And I was really really really in the mood for my Starbucks.  (Sometimes my dinner when Phillip is in class all night…)  So I decided I would give the Hillcrest location a shot.  Mistake.  It was bitter as usual.  So annoyed.  I went home and typed up an email and sent it off to Starbucks customer relations.  It just made me feel better.  I knew it wasn’t going to actually get anywhere.

Today, I received an email from Starbucks.  Shock.  And it was from a real person, not a computer generated letter!  Shawn, the Starbucks guy, told me that they were putting a few drink coupons in the mail and were getting in touch with management at the Hillcrest store in order to ensure proper barista training.

So the lesson learned today: Complain and you get something for free.  Sad lesson, but true.  I don’t feel too bad since every time I get a bad mocha I am spending $5.01 to drink it.  At least now, I might be able to get decent ones at the Hillcrest location (assuming management gets on the ball and does some barista training…)!
