The Baby Product of My Week (Week 4)

The Moses Basket!!! Yes, it's been 4 weeks and we just really started using the moses basket (we totally should have been using it at night sooner...). We have kept it in the family room when she may take a nap or just need to stretch out for a while (since we have doggies and the floor is their domain). It's been pretty convenient so far. But she really hasn't slept in it for long periods of time. We have been trying to use the play yard for night-time sleeping in our room. It has a changing table and has worked out great for that purpose but Emerson isn't too fond of just being so exposed. The moses basket is just a little more comfortable at the moment with the more intimate space. I guess this is why people have bassinets. We didn't buy a bassinet and went with the moses basket instead (basically the same thing just not on a stand) because we liked the portability of it and can move it room to room or even take it on a trip. It's nice too because we can put it on the floor and look down on it from the bed instead of having to get up and check on her each time we hear a funny sound.

The Baby Product of My Week (Week 3)

This is awesome! It's from the family of Sleep Sheep. We registered and received a Sleep Sheep. It stays in Emerson's crib. Another family friend sent us the Gentle Giraffe which is a "friend" of the Sleep Sheep. The giraffe (just like the sheep) has 4 different sounds - Play, Calm, Relax, and Sleep. The sleep setting is the favorite of the moment. When its bedtime, we turn the sleep sound on which is just a very distinct loud heartbeat sound and Emerson gets very quiet and her eyes start slowly closing. It runs for 45 minutes and then automatically turns off. The calm setting is also a favorite which we use during the day when we just need to put her down for a while regardless of her napping or not. It has these weird jungle noises with an ape sound every once in a while. Emerson seems to love and just looks and half smiles at the giraffe. If you order it from the Sleep Sheep website, you can buy small travel versions of each of the animals which is great.

The Baby Product of My Week (Week 2)

So...The bouncy seat is awesome (Fisher-Price Hoppy Days Bouncer). There's not much bounce going on these days but it does vibrate. That seems to do the trick most of the time. If not, then just putting it near wherever you are sitting, putting your foot on the metal springy stand, and bobbing it up and down means instant happiness. We have also placed it on the dining room table during dinner. I figure the bigger Emerson gets then the more she will be able to bounce it herself. The harness at the moment is pretty useless. We even had to put a cushion that was originally bought for the carseat in it just to keep Emerson from slouching down too far. We actually received 2 of these at our baby showers. We decided to keep both and have one at our house and one at my parents house. It's worked out great so far because she has somewhere to sit and sleep when we are there. We purposely picked one that was light weight (in order to travel with) and generally inexpensive (so we could throw it out if it was just too gross when she was done with it). So we give a big YEA for the bouncy seat!

The Baby Product of My Week (Week 1)

The itzbeen! I didn't really know if I needed this or not. But its proven to be very very useful. The first week at home was tough (not because she was a bad baby, but its just such an adjustment). We couldn't remember if and when we changed Emerson or even who changed her last. Plus, I would fall asleep randomly and had no idea how long I had been asleep or even when Emerson last ate. It just sits on our side table next to our couch and one of us remembers to reset the appropriate timer at the right time. I am usually always looking at the clock, but you get lost in time when you don't have much else to do except hang out with a baby. Plus, at night, it's great because if she doesn't wake you up when its been way too long, then you can set an alarm on the itzbeen itself to tell you its time!
